What is the first thought that comes to mind when we think about this year’s Bitef slogan “The World without Us” in the context of modern day Europe? Can public institutions and European societies efficiently stand up to the rising challenges of right-wing populism, xenophobia and intolerance faced by developed democratic societies and how? What are the ways in which a work of art - radicalising fears and concerns of common people - can guide us towards potential liberation and focus audience’s attention on the inevitable intertwining of aesthetic values and human rights?

  • Ivan Medenica, artistic director, Bitef
